Summary: Willow talks to Oz over the internet, and find out something
Author's notes: I know technically
Jordy should be a tiny baby who just recently got baby teeth, but in this story
he's three and a half. Also, the very end line came from (or might be a
variation of) something from a Buffy book called The Willow Files. And as for
the pot... it's not ours, I swear.
I don't want to be here. I don't know why I am here, but I know there are better places to be.
Willow looked up from her computer screen and checked over her shoulder, making sure no one was reading over her shoulder.
I know how I got here, so that's something, right?
There was a drunken cry behind her, causing Willow to instinctively fold her laptop screen down, and start to stand up.
"Hey Wills, whatcha doing?" Xander tried to act cool as he shakily entered the room.
"Xander, I should go," Willow began, reaching for her computer case.
"No, no, you don't need to go, everything's fine!" Xander gently pushed her hand away from her vinyl case, "Just sit back, it's almost midnight, they'll be going to bed soon!" Xander smiled wearily at her, trying to stress how much he wanted her to stay.
Willow smiled reassuringly at her friend and agreed to stay a little longer.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Xander asked.
"XANDER!"
At the sound of his close to smashed mother's voice, Xander darted out of the room without another word.
My parents are out of town again, but instead of leaving me home alone, they thought it would be best if I spent the night at Xander's house. (Probably because they know Oz won't visit me at Xander's.) Little did they know that this weekend is some huge party at the Harris residence. It's Saturday night and people have been here partying since yesterday morning!
Willow stifled a yawn, and minimized her notepad journal. She decided to use the only working phone cable in the house to her advantage.
Hooking up to the internet, Willow opened her messaging program, and much to her delight, Oz was on.
*Hello*
Great! He sent her a message as soon as she signed on, definite sign that Oz wasn't holding her parents dislike of him against her.
Hi.
*How are you?*
Trying to cope with the Harris household. Xander is fine, but everyone else... I told you about the party, right?
*Yeah, you did. Is it bad?*
Well, I'm hidden away in the unused office, so I'm at a good distance from all the alcohol...
*But how are you doing?*
Good. Little tired, but there's no going to bed any time soon, Xander's uncle Rory has some woman in the guest bedroom. (Sure am glad I didn't bring any special stuffed animals with me, they'd be stained for life
*!*
I meant scarred...
*lol. So, what's Xander doing?*
He keeps checking on me, but mainly he's waiting on everyone
*Want me to pick you up?*
Nah. My parents would freak out if they found out. Besides, I have internet access and I'm talking to you, so things aren't as bad as they could be
*Well, that's good. You probably wouldn't enjoy what's going on over here that much*
Why? What's happening?
*My parents are having some dinner party downstairs, so we are restricted from going anywhere south of the stairway. And then after that limitation, Devon and some of his 'friends' are having their own little stoner party down the hall. Meanwhile, I am trying to
baby-sit Jordy, but we only have access to the bathroom and my room, so our activities have been pretty limited*
Wow. Want me to leave you alone so you can play with Jordy?
*No, Jordy's fiddling with a Baby's First Guitar I bought him, so he's occupied*
Aww, you got him a little guitar?
*Yeah, he's been BEGGING me for one ever since he heard us Dingoes once at practice*
That's really cool
*He's actually kind of good. I already taught him a chord*
Wow, he's 3 right?
3 and a half. He'll kill you if you say otherwise*
lol, uh-oh, hold on
Willow slightly folded her laptop as the office door creaked open.
Luckily, it was only Xander.
"Brought you a coke," he held up the soda can triumphantly, "So, who ya talking to?"
"How did you--"
"Chat screen's open. Anybody with half a microchip of computer knowledge knows what a chat screen looks like!" Xander laughed and pulled up a chair beside Willow, handing her the drink.
"I was talking to Oz," Willow felt a little weird about having Xander right there as she talked to Oz.
*Willow, you there? Did something happen?*
"What's that about?" Xander asked, pointing to the screen.
Willow turned back to the screen, realizing she hadn't said anything for a while.
Yeah, Xander just came in, he's sitting right here.
*Oh, hi Xander*
"Yeah, hi," Xander grumbled, taking a large swig from Willow's drink.
Xander gives an irritated, unemotional greeting
*well, likewise to him, too*
So (trying to change subject) how's Jordy doing?
*Good, got sick of playing guitar, he's sitting on my lap, constantly sniffing my neck*
??
*Sry, forgot. It's a werewolf thing. I'm his alpha, so whenever he's upset or anything he always comes to me. So, periodically, he I guess makes sure my scent is the same, like he's checking up on me. I'm not saying it's annoying, but the little guy's nose tickles in a not-so-fun way*
"Wow, Oz sure is typing a mouthful" Xander observed, obviously bored.
Willow ignored Xander's comment.
That's kind of cool, in the mildly freaky way. I mean, if anyone else was reading this chat, they'd be thoroughly freaked
*Totally*
So, how is the dinner party going? I thought those things usually let out early, it's nearly one
*I know, I've been worrying about it. Must have turned into a not-so-professional dinner party. I know Devon's isn't going to end anytime soon*
Do you have any temptation to join that party?
*'Course I do*
Willow was slightly taken aback. She had no idea Oz smoked pot. Or maybe he was being sarcastic. Either way, it wasn't the response she was expecting.
*But Jordy's here, so I'm being forced to be dry*
Is this your sarcastic typing, cos I can't tell
Xander noticed the uncomfortable look on Willow's face and read over the chat screen, "Whoa, Oz's a stoner?"
Willow shook her head, waiting for Oz's response.
*Does it make a difference, whether I'm kidding or not?*
"So, little Mr. Perfect, the Great and Powerful Oz is a pothead. Well, put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hell, he will!" Xander erupted in laughter.
"Shut up, he's just being weird or something. He doesn't smoke. And besides, it wouldn't make any difference," Willow snapped defensively.
"It will to your parents. Give them an even better reason to hate him. Willow, if it doesn't matter, why haven't you responded?"
Willow's fingers shot to the keyboard.
*Willow, are you there?*
Yeah I am
*What's wrong? Are you really bothered by the pot stuff?*
You were kidding, weren't you?
*No, I wasn't. It's not that big of a deal, is it?*
"Of course it is!" Xander shouted at the computer, "You are a freaking stoner! You could be arrested, or like, die of marijuana poisoning, or something! Imagine, a boy your age, throwing your life away, one joint at a time, it's sad really."
"Xander, shut up!"
Oz, how long have you been smoking pot?
*Not too long, couple years. How much does it bother you. Truthfully*
Not that much, but a little. I'm not so much bothered as surprised
"Liar."
"Shut up."
*Oh, ok. Listen, it is SO past Jordy's bedtime, his mom will kill me if he stays up any later*
If the pot doesn't kill you first
"I cannot believe you DID that!" Willow slapped at Xander, but he had control of the keyboard.
*Excuse me?*
You're throwing your life away one joint at a time you know
"Xander, it really isn't that clever or original of a saying," Willow remarked as she fought for the keyboard.
*Willow, I don't mean to disappoint you, it's just something I do. I wish it wouldn't bother you so much, but I can't help it if it does. Listen, I have to get Jordy to bed, I'll be on later, okay?*
Don't even try talking to me later Oz, I don't think my parents would approve of me dating a pothead
Willow let out a shriek as Xander unplugged the computer before Oz could reply.
"Xander! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?" Willow fought for the internet connection, but Xander
efficiently yanked the phone cable out of the wall socket.
"You can talk to Oz on Monday, bye bye," Xander patted Willow on the head and ran out of the room, back to the party.
Seething, but knowing she could work things out with Oz, Willow opened her journal again.
Sometimes Xander really makes me mad. He is always SO protective over me, it's ridiculous. Oz is a great guy! So what if he's in a band and smokes pot and does all sorts of things my parents would never even dream about? He really is a great guy, right?
Even if he has some smoking problems... I don't even know for sure if he was being sarcastic or not. It could have not even been him! In the end of the conversation Xander was talking for me and Oz thought it was me, could that have been happening on the other end of the chat?
Hey, I can hope, can't I?
God, Xander still made me angry though. He had no right to do any of that.
I wish I was home right now, curled up in bed, reading or sleeping, or doing anything other than sitting in this office, hiding from the drunks.
Actually, if I'm wishing for things, I wish I was with Oz right now, doing anything other than arguing over the internet.
Bottom line; I don't want to be here
